A quick look at the Spotify discography for The New Tropics might make you think they are newcomers to the Nashville music scene. However, their first streaming track on the platform, 2024’s “Show Boy,” simply marked a return of the trio to Music City. The band, consisting of vocalist Caitlyn Fisler, guitarist Scot Wilson, and drummer Tim Pombo trace their roots to a Facebook post that led Fisler and Wilson to start making music together in 2016, with Pombo joining soon after his move from New York.

However, the group’s momentum paused in 2018 when Fisler returned to her home state of Hawaii. During that time, Wilson and Pombo remained active as sidemen for other artists. In 2023, the original trio reunited, rekindling their creative chemistry with a deeper sense of purpose and direction.

Blending soulful, breathy vocals with dreamy guitar tones and dynamic, percussive backdrops, The New Tropics draw on influences like The Cardigans and The Beaches.

Recent Work: “Wildflower”

Their new single “Wildflower” delivers what the band aptly describes as “instant brain candy” — a potent mix of guitar-driven, ’00s indie rock and ’90s pop-forward melodic hooks. Lyrically, “Wildflower” reflects on the awkwardness of growing up different and the eventual empowerment that comes with learning to love the parts of yourself that never quite fit in. It’s a bright, hooky track with just enough grit to keep things grounded — an anthem for the misfits who grew into themselves.

There’s a sincerity to The New Tropics’ music that taps into a familiar emotional space without sounding recycled, making it both comforting and fresh. The band’s chemistry — shaped by years of friendship, distance, and reunion — shines through in the way the vocals, guitar, and drums play off each other.

If you’re a fan of breezy throwback indie rock, or miss the early 2000s alternative scene The New Tropics will find a home on your summer playlists.

“Wildflower” is out now on all streaming platforms. The band is currently prepping their first EP, expected in early August 2025, and will perform at The East Room in Nashville on June 12 alongside Ducky Neptune and Jake Ziegler. Tickets are on sale now at the East Room’s event page.
