After their sophomore release, Afterglow, in March 2016, Nashville-based pop-rock trio Samecity has spent a relentless year and a half on the road touring across the country. Today, the band unleashes their new album, Lowlands, into the digisphere.
The five-song EP features a satisfying blend of harmonies from front folks Justin Bowersox and Hannah Bowersox, while each gets solo time in the vocal spotlight. The album brims with dramatic lyrics and dynamic arrangements, like a soundtrack to their own personal journey as a hard-touring band. Beginning with the Paramore-esque “Castaway,” tales of the grind and struggle are lightened by shimmering instrumentation, fist-pumping rhythms, and lyrical resolve. “I’m a flame they can’t put out when the lights go down…I’m not afraid to stand my ground when the lights go down,” they declare. And we believe it.
