When I last spoke with indie folk ensemble Darlingside–with whom I had a philosophical post-Thanksgiving discussion about the difference between “dressing” and “stuffing”–they had just released their latest album, Birds Say, and had been on tour with the likes of Patty Griffin, King Cardinal, The Ballroom Thieves, Tall Heights, and Caitlin Canty. Since then, they have continued to travel around this great country of ours, seemingly touring nonstop, and even making a stop to interact with students involved in the Americana Project in Oregon who are learning to write and play music. Now, the quartet, still riding the wave of success from their acclaimed album, has embarked on a 25-date tour with eclectic Mexo-Americana outfit, David Wax Museum.
The tour began in their home turf of Cambridge, Massachusetts; “We’re pretty excited to kick off the tour in our hometown, we can literally walk to the venue,” says guitarist Dave Senft with a laugh. The tour brings them to the City Winery in Nashville on April 16th—their fourth performance in the Music City since last September. “We love coming to Nashville, it’s always a good experience, and the crowds always respond warmly,” adds Senft.
The band’s schedule is intense, with a show almost every night; “It can be a lot, but we’re so close to each other, and we have a lot of fun together,” says Senft. “When you get to do what you love with your best friends, it makes all the difference.”
