Live music lovers rejoice: music festival season is finally on its way!  The new year always brings us the highly-anticipated release of the 2024 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival lineup.

Just down the road from Nashville, Bonnaroo turns the small town of Manchester, TN into one of the largest cities in the state for the weekend.  Beckoning this crowd of 80,000+ music fans is an always-diverse lineup of bands that fill entire days with fun.

The 2024 Bonnaroo Music Festival Lineup:

Bonnaroo’s 2024 Headliners:

Everyone always focuses on a festival’s headliners, so we’ll start there.  This year sees the return of some familiar names, plus a clear nod to the fest’s expansion of its EDM presence.  2024 sees long-time rock stalwarts The Red Hot Chili Peppers returning to The Farm, along with pop and hip hop star Post Malone.  Filling out the third headlining spot is British electronic DJ, Fred Again..  Electronic music will also dominate Thursday night at Bonnaroo as fan-favorite, Pretty Lights, returns to Manchester in an official headlining spot and on the festival’s main stage.  This is the first year that there will be a true Thursday night headliner!

The 2024 Bonnaroo undercard:

While the top of the festival lineup is full of star power, many would argue that it’s really the undercard that makes or breaks a lineup.  For 2024, Bonnaroo embraced that concept and we are already a bit nervous about the inevitable scheduling conflicts that will happen with an undercard full of bands we want to see.

Thursday will see sets ranging from singer-songwriter-pop artist Michigander to the insanity of the rock aliens GWAR.  Friday is arguably the most stacked day of the festival as sets will include Americana rockers Larkin Poe, the undefinable sound of The Mars Volta, modern pop from TV Girl, and some nostalgia with T-Pain. Saturday spans from Americana vocal power with Britany Howard to the storytelling songwriting of Gregory Alan Isakov to Nashville’s hard-rocking Cage The Elephant.  The entire thing is brought to a close on Sunday with shows from Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit to some guaranteed fun with Carly Rae Jepsen.

The 2024 Bonnaroo poster also promises a few special treats such as a sunrise set from Pretty Lights and a “Once More With Feeling(s)” Dashboard Confessional Emo SuperJam!

Where And When Is Bonnaroo?

Bonnaroo takes place at Great Stage Park (also known as The Farm) in Manchester, TN.  It’s about an hour south of Nashville. The festival’s official dates are June 13-16, which is a Thursday through Sunday.  However, in recent years, the festival has started allowing campers to arrive as early as Tuesday, with some limited entertainment that night and more options increasing throughout Wednesday.  We will have to wait for the official schedule to know the full details for 2024.

The other important (and fun) part of the “when” of Bonnaroo is the non-stop music.  Once the fest kicks into full gear on Thursday, it doesn’t stop until the last note is played late Sunday night/early Monday morning.  Part of the expansion of the festival’s EDM offerings has helped take the party to new levels.  We have already been promised at least one “sunrise set” where, as you may have guessed, an artist starts playing around 3:30 AM and continues to sunrise.  However, more may be added when the full schedule arrives.  Where In Woods is an electronic oasis inside the camping venue.  That’s definitely our choice for the afterparty’s afterparty.  Be prepared for lots of music and little sleep!

How Do You Roo?

Having been to Bonnaroo 10 times before, it’s our honest opinion that this is a festival that is meant for camping.  The Farm is large enough to accommodate everyone and it builds a community that you won’t see—or feel—anywhere else.  You truly feel like family there, so I highly recommend embracing the camping experience.

Tickets are available now and are set up by price tiers.  The longer you wait to buy a ticket, it’s likely to cost you more money.  This year, the actual festival ticket and the camping passes are sold separately. You can also mix and match the level of ticket and camping experience—for example you can get a general admission ticket and stay in VIP camping.

We usually see 35 to 40 bands in a weekend so a general admission ticket is a value that’s hard to beat.  Also, the general admission car camping pass allows you to put up a tent that can accommodate a few people, so that cost can be split among your group. However, if you want the easier, more luxurious lifestyle, you can purchase certain upgraded tickets, all the way up to Platinum that has special viewing areas and beverages included at shows.  Full ticket information is available on Bonnaroo’s website here.

What should we expect next from the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival for 2024?

Leading up to the festival there will be plenty of announcements.  One of our favorites is when the details of the famed SuperJam are released.  You can check out East of 8th’s past coverage of the Bonnaroo SuperJam here to get a taste of what it’s like.  Additionally, there will likely be a few artists added to play on campground stages called “Pods” and to fill in the additional camping days before the festival truly starts.

And thus starts the official countdown until Bonnaroo 2024.  We hope to see you on The Farm!
