What people think about us is none of our business. True freedom begins when we decide not to worry about impressing others and give ourselves permission to just be. Nashville-based band The Brook & The Bluff sing of this longing to be careless, or maybe carefree, in the midst of self-inflicted rigidity in their beautiful new single “Hallways,” from their forthcoming album First Place, out October 25th.
Comprised of Joseph Settine (lead vocals/keys/guitar), Alec Bolton (guitar/vocals), John Canada (drums/vocals), and Fred Lankford (bass/vocals), The Brook & The Bluff was established in Birmingham, Alabama, and the foursome has been recording and touring since 2016. Originally an acoustic duo, The Brook & The Bluff expanded their sound and their lineup, planting their flag firmly in the indie rock realm. In “Hallways,” the band returns to an acoustic, stripped-down performance style as their velvety harmonies seamlessly connect, creating a soothing, sun-drenched sound reminiscent of bands like Fleet Foxes and Local Natives. This feat is also accomplished in their non-acoustic recordings but here it’s amplified against the simplicity of the instrumentation and arrangement. These golden voices were meant to make music together.
