Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Nashville’s hip-hop scene is growing and we’re not mad about it. Meet Nashville rapper Daisha McBride, who is poised to make some serious waves in the genre. With spoken word poetry set to a laid-back groove, McBride’s flow is lithe and graceful in her new single “Extra!”—and beloved readers, we have your first look at the video.
In the video, we go behind-the-scenes with McBride in the studio as she raps—a simple idea for a video, but one that allows her lyrics to be the focus. This young woman who just graduated from college speaks with maturity as she admits that she’s “learned to trust the process” as she makes her music, acknowledging that a slow burn is fine with her—she’s not going anywhere.
McBride, known to her fans as The Rap Girl, went viral as a result of her freestyle video on Vine being featured on Twitter, which has garnered thousands of views and received love from Missy Elliot herself. The young rapper has an extremely devout and engaged fanbase on various social media platforms, as well as on Soundcloud. Her music currently has over 100K streams on Spotify without editorial support—”Extra!” alone has over 6,000 streams on Spotify without any support from official Spotify playlists.
Speaking of not going anywhere, McBride hints in the song that she may be headed to Atlanta, and we hope it’s only to visit. Nashville needs voices like Daisha McBride’s.
