Carver Commodore represents not only the reincarnation and rebranding of roots rock outfit The Bear & The Bride, it signifies a complete metamorphosis. Situated in Florence, Alabama amidst the rich heritage of Southern rock and soul songwriting styles of Muscle Shoals, Carver Commodore blends those roots with shimmering guitar licks and pop sensibilities.
The band is now finished with their debut EP, with plans to release it in September, and is excited to unleash new single “Stars & Galaxies,” available everywhere on April 21st, to give us a test of the greatness to come. “Stars & Galaxies has been in the works for years. It started out as a song about space and a human’s time on earth,” opines band co-founder Payton Pruitt. “About how easy it is to feel that you have nothing to offer, and how easy it would be to give up, go to be with God, and leave the room you take up and the air you breathe for someone else – someone who will be far more productive than you,” he adds. “By the time I finished writing the song, it had gone from one of hopelessness to one of contentment. I now know that I can fight the good fight and win it; It takes work and will power, but we have a flame inside of us that is there for both the bad times and the good.”
“I wanted the music video to reflect the song itself in its simplicity and dynamics,” Pruitt adds. “The combination of lyric video and ‘performance video’ is something I hadn’t seen done that often, and the use of zoom/day versus night and color filtering complement the song’s movements.” The subject matter may sound intense, but the song is an upbeat, earworm-y pleasure, and a solid piece of ground for Carver Commodore to thrust their flag into the indie rock landscape. One listen will have you saying, “yes, more of that please.” We’re here for it, y’all.
