The Captain’s Son have put a unique spin on indie surf pop, combining the classic form with harmony-rich layers harmonies and good old garage rock, brilliantly showcased in the band’s new single, “Walking Around Purposely.” Comprised of Paige Byrd, Jarred Hayden, and William Hopkins, The Captain’s Son are making waves in the Southern California scene.
With its catchy warm guitar melodies, laid-back vocals, and upbeat drum rhythms, The Captain’s Son’s music could inject sunshine into the dreariest of days. Lead vocalist Byrd describes how the music was influenced by time, place and everyday experiences, and confesses, “anything from the culture, the weather, the scenery, or the people you’re with will influence what we write.” On their forthcoming self-titled EP set for release on March 10th, the band desired to capture the fuzzed-out goodness of underground and analog recordings. Byrd explains, “If there wasn’t vinyl on the record player, the radio was on or there was a tape in the tape deck. The warmth of that old analog sound constantly filled the room.”
