It’s been an interesting year, 2016, so we thought we would enlist the help of one of our local favorites, ZAYDE WØLF, to make an interesting “Best Of” list to celebrate this interesting year. I wonder how many more times I can use the word “interesting” in this post…
If you aren’t familiar with ZAYDE WØLF, the project of Nashville producer and beatmaster Dustin Burnett, you’re definitely missing out; Burnett began crafting arena-sized pop anthems featuring big bass and heavy percussion with the idea that he was going to have someone else sing them. “The singer I had asked wasn’t available, so I sang on the tracks and messed around with it, and it got licensed almost immediately,” he said in an interview we did with him recently. The licensing company basically told him to “do a bunch more,” so he did. Now, Burnett has garnered nearly 60 licenses in the last year, with songs used by the NFL Network, the Olympics, the Cleveland Cavaliers, in movie trailers, and on the hit television show “Dancing WithThe Stars.” Yep, that’s right.
His picks for 2016 include genre-spanning tracks from Grouplove, Phantogram, NEEDTOBREATHE, and The 1975, among others. “This year was another amazing year for music. Once again artists and producers broke down every wall of every genre and made music that transcends style. My playlist of top songs this year isn’t about one specific genre either,” he explains. “Just songs that I loved and made me feel something special this year.” We think that’s definitely interesting.
As for 2016, East of 8th is so grateful for you, beloved readers. You’ve made it a banner year for this site, and we can’t thank you enough for your support. Here’s to all that 2017 has in store!
