Up The Chain,  a super tight jam rock outfit from the City of Brotherly Love, released their latest LP, The Prison Break, in March, and even features the guitar stylings of fellow Philly native Dan Schwartz of Good Old War.

The band’s bolder, more unfettered sound can be attributed to its new form as a quartet with lead singer/songwriter Reed Kendall being joined by bassist Noah Skaroff, drummer Kirby Sybert, and as of late, keyboardist John Hildenbrand.  Written during the span of over 100 shows across the U.S. and Europe and recorded in their very own Weird Candle Studios, the group’s coming-of-age record has the trappings of a jam band and is a perfect illustration of its quirky, roots-rock melodies; drawing comparisons to Beck, Kris Kristofferson and even Randy Newman, Up The Chain will continue to enjoy a newfound electric cohesion for the neighbor rock for which they’re already known in Philly and beyond.

The band’s spring tour will bring them to the Music City on Saturday, April 16th, to perform at local hangout Mad Donna’s, and on Sunday, April 17th, at local art venue Meal Ticket.

BONUS! The fellas put together a playlist just for you, beloved readers!  “These are some of our favorite tunes to listen to in the van as we traverse the country/world. Some of these artists are good friends (The Dawn Drapes, The Districts, The Lawsuits) some are artists whose work led us to this point in our lives (Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder, Bright Eyes), and some are creating a framework for the kind of music we’d like to create in the future (Blake Mills, Mac DeMarco, D’Angelo, Emily King),” explains Kendall. “Please enjoy these tunes, and let us know what’s blowing your hair back — we’re always looking for fresh inspiration!”
