PREVIEW: YOUNG BUFFALO at THE BASEMENT EAST on 6/28/15

YB

A whole lot of awesome has happened to Oxford, Mississippi’s indie rock outfit Young Buffalo since I last spoke with them in February; they’ve released their debut full length album, House, to great reviews (including one written by yours truly), had fun playing a round of shows at SXSW (maybe a little too much fun, there was talk of the band instigating a few impromptu mosh pits), did their second Daytrotter session, went on a national tour with Matt Pond PA, and (**deeeeep breath**) are embarking on another extensive tour with Little Hurricane.  Whew!  They’ve been busy!  Fortunately, I was able to snag some time with frontman Jim Barrett recently while he was at home in Mississippi, to ask him about the whirlwind of Young Buffalo activity.

Before the album was released, Barrett wasn’t sure the band was going to make it to Nashville, but guess what y’all!? Young Buffalo will be in the Music City on Sunday, June 28th at The Basement East!  Barrett said the band is excited to play at Nashville’s newest venue, adding, “it’s been really good to play shows and see people singing along to our new songs.  We’d known we were going to have to tour for a while and work it, it’s our first proper full length.  The tour so far has been very positive, we’ve gotten a lot of good feedback, and it’s been good to get out there and play for people.  It’s exciting for us to play every night, and hopefully folks are excited to see us every night.”

The band has some down time before the Nashville show, so they hope to get out and explore our fair city while they’re here; Barrett said they’re “down for anything,” and, y’all, get this…there might be another Nashville in the works for the fall.  SWOON.

Tickets for the 21+ show on June 28th are $10 advance/$12 at the door; doors open at 7:00 p.m., and the show starts at 8:00 p.m.
