Los Angeles trio Kid Sistr lean into heavier territory on their new single “Maniac,” a grunge-leaning track built around distorted riffs and a sharp-edged, anthemic chorus. Fronted by vocalist and guitarist Sabel Englert, alongside bassist Sara Keden and drummer Becca Webster, the band shifts away from the brighter edges of their earlier work in favor of something more direct and forceful.
The guitars lead, driving the song forward, while the drums give it bite. It’s a straightforward approach, but an intentional one. The delivery keeps it direct and immediate.
“Maniac” stays focused on the moment things finally snap in a relationship. It moves quickly and doesn’t spend much time looking back. The band describes it as “a grungy head nodder with a scream along chorus,” adding that it’s “the soundtrack to finally dumping him and swearing off men forever.” It’s a blunt framing, but it matches the energy of the song. It’s about release rather than reflection.
“Maniac” follows Kid Sistr’s other recently released singles “American Teenage Prophecy” and “Shitshow.” The songs serve as a preview of the band’s upcoming EP American Teenage Prophecy, due May 13, 2026 via Giant Music. Together, the singles suggest a project built around that same heavier, more textured sound.
