On his latest single, “Don’t Let The Songbirds Cry,” Nashville’s artist CS Hellmann leans into a hazy, lo-fi daydream, blending indie and psychedelic textures through with a clear analog approach. The track continues a run of recent releases, including “Dagger In The Sun,” developed in collaboration with Jared Corder of the band *repeat repeat.

Recorded at Corder’s Polychrome Ranch in Hartsville, Tennessee, the secluded setting and its sense of space, quiet, and natural connection clearly add to the song’s atmospheric tone. Additionally, Hellmann cites influences like Kurt Vile, Fruit Bats, and Tame Impala, all of which can be heard in the song’s relaxed pacing and layered production. “Don’t Let The Songbirds Cry” unfolds gradually, letting its textures and melodies grow naturally, while the pacing of the guitar work carries a haunting weight. Fingerpicked acoustic guitar takes the lead, but it’s the groove-driven drums and analog synths that make the song feel expansive.

It’s a direction that continues to take shape across Hellmann’s recent releases, where creative, seemingly understated arrangements reveal deeper nuances each time you listen.
