New York–based singer-songwriter ROREY returns with “Temporary Tragedy,” a bedroom pop single paired with a cinematic new music video. The track continues her introspective approach to songwriting, balancing intimate production with direct, emotionally detailed lyrics.
“Temporary Tragedy” centers on the emotional toll of waiting for a relationship that never fully arrives. ROREY explains, “My single is about the cost of self abandonment when you grip intimacy, and what it means to choose yourself. I was waiting in a place someone was never going to arrive, certainly not on the timeline I’d hoped for, and it nearly broke me. Sometimes love isn’t enough to bridge the gap between two people when the other person won’t meet you there. That’s the tragedy.”
The accompanying video expands on those themes visually, using a red-string board motif to represent the circular thinking that can follow a breakup. “I wanted the red string board in the video to emulate that constant spiraling, that rumination, as I navigated being left alone in my pain,” she says. “While the video is rooted in my first queer relationship, its message is universal: sometimes love isn’t enough to bridge the gap between hope and reality.”
Her work has found placement on Spotify editorial playlists such as Fresh Finds, Fresh Finds Indie, and New Music Daily, helping introduce her intimate songwriting style to a wider audience. With “Temporary Tragedy,” she continues to build a catalog rooted in direct confession and understated, atmospheric production.
