In the near decade they’ve been together, Montana’s Kitchen Dwellers have carved out a reputation as an electrifying act in world of modern string music. The four-piece—Shawn Swain (mandolin), Torrin Daniels (banjo), Joe Funk (upright bass), and Max Davies (acoustic guitar)—has shared the stage with Railroad Earth, The Infamous Stringdusters, and Twiddle, while gracing festival lineups from Northwest String Summit to WinterWonderGrass. Their live shows are a dynamic blend of high-energy bluegrass, rock, and genre-bending improvisation that defies the label of bluegrass or jamgrass.

Their Music

The band’s latest album, Seven Devils, is an ambitious, concept-driven project inspired by Dante’s Inferno. It takes listeners on a journey of self-exploration, pairing folk-infused bluegrass with psychedelic rock flourishes and introspective storytelling.

The album opens with the banjo-driven “Seven Devils (Limbo),” a track that captures the tension of indecision before building to an epic finale. “The Crow and The Raven (III)” delivers a slow-burning lament on heartbreak, while “Pendulum” explores the cycle of addiction and the human tendency to seek comfort—even in self-destructive habits. Closing the album, “Unwind (Paradiso)” offers a cathartic, psychedelic-tinged release that brings the band’s exploration of the human condition full circle.

If your looking for some classic Kitchen Dwellers, their 2017 album, Ghost in the Bottle, is a perfect starting point. Hightlights include the airy “Visions of Mohr” and the rambling “Mountain.”

Bluegrass is always a welcomed addition to the Bonnaroo Farm where festival revelers love any reason to get up and dance. And, the Ryman is a natural fit for their twangy roots.

Kitchen Dwellers At Bonnaroo And Ryman Auditorium

Catch Kitchen Dwellers at Bonnaroo on Thursday, June 12, at 4:15 PM on This Stage, where they’ll bring their dynamic sound to festival-goers. Tickets to Bonnaroo are running low, but a few are still available here. Then, just a few weeks later, they’ll headline Nashville’s legendary Ryman Auditorium—a major milestone for the band—on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 7:30 PM, with support from Mountain Grass Unit. Tickets for that concert are available on the Ryman’s event page here.

Reflecting on both shows happening in the same month, guitarist Max Davies shared:

“We’ve been going to music festivals and listening to the Grand Ole Opry since we were kids. To be able to go and play arguably the most historic venues for either a music festival or music venue is a huge honor and something we are greatly looking forward to.”

With a sound that blends bluegrass, rock, and a progressive edge, Kitchen Dwellers are ready to make their mark at Bonnaroo and the Ryman Auditorium. Come celebrate with the band at their most anticipated performances yet.
