Austin-based alternative rock artist Bee Blackwell returns with “LALALA,” a sticky, daydreamy single that marks her first release of the year — and officially kicks off the road to her upcoming EP Nine Lives, due out June 20, 2025. Layered with melodic guitars and emotional complexity, the track blends vulnerability with powerful alt-rock chords, giving us a glimpse into the emotional whirlwind brewing in this artist.

About Bee Blackwell:

Bee Blackwell has always favored music with feeling — whether covering emo and grunge favorites online or crafting her own blend of 90s-influenced alternative rock. After playing in bands throughout high school and college, Bee began posting covers in 2023 and quickly built a loyal fanbase that connected with her emotionally direct style. That momentum led to her 2023 debut EP Calico, featuring the fan favorite “Blue.”

Now based in Austin, Bee made her SXSW debut in March 2025. A quick listen to all of her recent releases reveals Blackwell peeling back new layers of herself with each track, revealing complicated, candid emotions.

“LALALA” and the upcoming ‘Nine Lives’ EP:

Written and self-produced by Blackwell, “LALALA” is the first taste of Blackwell’s upcoming Nine Lives EP. The single opens with breezy, melodic guitar and layered harmonies that gradually swell into a burst of percussion and chant-like vocals.

“‘LALALA’ is a conversation between two people who haven’t spoken to each other in probably years, with all the weird boundaries and walls that have built up over the time lost” Blackwell explains. “There’s a sense of familiarity, but you still don’t know if you can fully trust them, so you just make things up to fill silence or to seem interesting.”

That emotional tension — between connection and uncertainty — gives the track its punch. It’s an honest snapshot of relational ambiguity, presented with dreamy warmth and just enough grit.

The full EP, Nine Lives, promises to build on this tone. Described as a personal diary entry, it will explore Blackwell’s struggles, emotional upheavals, and aspirations with confidence and clarity.

Bee Blackwell writes like someone who’s survived chaos — and is ready to sing about it. Her music feels both self-aware and unguarded, marrying the melodic pull of indie rock with the emotional grit of alt and emo. If you’re drawn to artists like Soccer Mommy or Snail Mail, Blackwell offers a sound and perspective that will feel right at home on your playlists.
