Michigander, the project of singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jason Singer has now been on its musical journey over a decade.ย  Over that time, the indie rock outfit has grown from humble beginnings pitching songs to college radio stations to enjoying over 100 million worldwide streams, having over 470,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, a series of critically acclaimed EPs, and performing at major music festivals like Bonnaroo. Michigander has used its time well, carving out a name for itself as a rising star in the indie rock scene. Now, with the release of their newest single, “Peace of Mind,” the band sets the stage for their much-anticipated self-titled debut LP that is due February 7, 2025 via Totally Normal Records through Thirty Tigers.

“Peace of Mind” encapsulates everything fans have come to love about Michigander while pushing the boundaries of their sound. Co-written with renowned producer and musician Butch Walker โ€“ known for his work with Green Day, Weezer, Fall Out Boy, and many more household names โ€“ the track is an anthem for anyone searching for contentment in a world that constantly demands more. Singer describes the song as, โ€œA song about living rich on minimum wage. Itโ€™s about how we as humans will never be satisfied with what we have and no matter how many goals we accomplish, we still will always want more.โ€ This reflective theme is delivered with the bandโ€™s signature mix of heartfelt lyrics and building instrumentation, making it both relatable and undeniably infectious.

As the music rises only a few seconds into the song, โ€œPeace of Mindโ€ grips listeners with its dynamic arrangement and polished production. The collaboration with Walker and the work of producer Jeremy Lutito adds a new layer of depth to Michiganderโ€™s sound, creating a seamless blend of raw emotion and polished indie rock aesthetics.

Jason Singerโ€™s journey to this point is a story of persistence and evolution. Reflecting on Michiganderโ€™s decade-long journey, Singer states, โ€œThe last 10 years were awesome. Everything built up to this point though. To make an analogy, the EPs were like television episodes of my story, and the album is the movie version. Itโ€™s blown up on the big screen. Iโ€™m just getting started, but this is my introduction to the world.โ€ With this perspective, โ€œPeace of Mindโ€ becomes not just a single, but a testament to the hard work, growth, and artistry that has defined Michiganderโ€™s path.

โ€œPeace of Mind,โ€ along with the previously-released single, โ€œEmotional,โ€ serve as previews to what we can expect when the full LP is released in February. Michigander knows how it feels to be the indie underdog both in music and life.ย  The bandโ€™s self-titled album has clearly been crafted through introspection, but carries a healthy dose of optimism about where Singer finds himself a decade later. ย

Nashville should take special notice of the February 7, 2025 album release date. Michigander will be hosting a special show in celebration at The Basement East. Tickets are already on sale and can be purchased here.

Without further ado, East of 8th is proud to present โ€œPeace of Mindโ€ on our Spotify playlist:
