Bree-on-uh Expands Her Dark-Pop World With “ur no angel”

With “ur no angel,” New York’s Bree-on-uh deepens the dark-pop world she’s been constructing over the past few years. The single unfolds in a slow, atmospheric way: synths simmer in the background, the vocals sit close and intentional, and the arrangement circles around the moment you finally see someone’s true intentions. It’s a song about disappointment, anger, and the sting of being misled, delivered with a soft brooding that has become central to her style.

While her audience is still emerging, Bree-on-uh’s path hasn’t been the casual upload-and-hope approach common among newer artists. She grew up writing songs. She later trained with Berklee alumni and worked with industry professionals who helped shape her approach to performance and studio work. She’s played respected New York rooms including Brooklyn Made, Rockwood Music Hall, The Delancey, and The Mercury Lounge. When you retroactively go back through her catalogue, the 2024 EP Overkill feels like a turning point, offering a clearer sense of who she wanted to be as an artist and leading into a run of singles that further defined her aesthetic, including the anthemic “fight or flight” and the delightfully heavy “takes one to know one.”

“ur no angel” continues that line of progression. It doesn’t lean on glossy hooks. Instead, it’s built on mood, voice, and emotional directness. Bree-on-uh may still be in the early stretch of her songwriting career but tracks like “ur no angel” make it easy to listen in anticipation of where her dark-pop world goes next.
