After a decade-long hiatus, Texas indie-pop band Voxtrot return with “Fighting Back,” the lead single off their forthcoming album Dreamers in Exile, due February 27, 2026 via the band’s own label, Cult Hero Records. The new track draws energy and melodic momentum from the early days of Voxtrot while adding a darker and more synthetic atmosphere reflecting the period of uncertainty and self-reinvention Voxtrot frontman Ramesh Srivastava has been experiencing in Los Angeles.
“Fighting Back” is built around driving percussion, layered guitar textures and a rich sonic tapestry created by analog synthesizers that bring introspective subject matter to life as something bold and cinematic. Srivastava’s lyrics—rooted in directionless mornings, pre-dawn wanderings through L.A., and an ego-bruising courier job on Rodeo Drive—capture the tension between disorientation and possibility. As a result, this new track has a distinctly personal but unmistakably Voxtrot feel: melodic, restless, searching for clarity.
Recorded at bassist Jason Chronis’ Haunted Air Studio in Lockhart, Texas and mixed by Dean Reid (Lana Del Rey, James Blake), Dreamers in Exile marks the band’s first full-length in nearly twenty years. “Fighting Back” serves as an introductory single to follow the larger narrative arc of Dreamers in Exile, which will explore the process of self-discovery, renewal and time elapsed between yesterday and today.
The Super 8–shot music video for “Fighting Back,” directed by longtime collaborator Annie Gunn with cinematography by Peter Simonite, extends that world visually—embracing film grain, light leaks, and analog texture to create a moving collage that feels tied to Voxtrot’s early aesthetic while pushing it forward.
In addition to releasing the album, Voxtrot have announced a spring 2026 North American tour. On April 15th, Voxtrot will play at The Basement East in Nashville, TN as part of a series of shows in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, Toronto, Brooklyn, Washington, D.C. and other cities.
