Finnish electropop duo Sin Cos Tan open a new chapter with “Cutting Losses,” the first single from their forthcoming album Greed and their debut release with Helsinki label All That Plazz. The project brings producer-DJ Jori Hulkkonen and vocalist-songwriter Juho Paalosmaa into a new era—one that leans brighter and more rhythmic while maintaining the duo’s signature blend of melodic clarity, electronic precision, and Nordic melancholy.
Anchored by warm synth work and a steady electronic groove, “Cutting Losses” introduces a clearer, more immediate sound for the duo. Its clean structure and subtle layers support the track’s reflective tone and the album’s broader focus on personal decision-making and consequence.
“Cutting Losses is about a relationship where one person gives up love for money. The other is left to make sense of that decision. It serves as an introduction to the album’s overarching theme of greed,” says Paalosmaa.
Hulkkonen frames the track as a deliberate starting point: “It’s direct and deceptively simple — intentionally a bit of a red herring for what’s to come. That’s precisely why it makes the perfect opening track.”
As individual artists, both members bring long-running credibility to the project. Hulkkonen is one of Finland’s most enduring figures in electronic music, known for decades of cross-genre experimentation and producer collaborations spanning Goldfrapp to Robyn. Paalosmaa, whose early work with Villa Nah earned international attention and a UK tour with OMD, remains one of the region’s most distinctive synth-pop voices.
Together, they’ve shaped Sin Cos Tan into a project where emotion and production hold equal weight—a balance that continues here. “Cutting Losses” signals growth, refinement, and a renewed commitment to the slow-burn electronic pop the duo are celebrated for.
