We’re starting the week with “Come On South,” the newest single from Oxford-born, Nashville-based folk-rock outfit Happy Landing. Even though it’s a bittersweet anthem at its core, the track’s sweeping orchestral lift makes it an unexpected mood boost for a Monday — carrying a weight that somehow feels light in motion.

Built around the ache of unspoken love and the quiet resolve to move forward, “Come On South” pairs light, airy piano with marching arrangements that nod toward baroque influences. It’s both cinematic and intimate, an approach the band has leaned into as their sound continues to evolve.

Formed in Oxford, Mississippi in 2020, Happy Landing consists of Matty Hendley (lead vocals, guitar), Keegan Christensen (vocals, keys), Jacob Christensen (drums), Andrew Gardner (fiddle, vocals), and Wilson Moyer (bass/guitar, vocals). Now based in Nashville, the five-piece blends traditional folk instrumentation with the energy of indie rock, creating a sound that’s rooted in southern influences but shaped by modern urgency. Their debut album Golden helped establish their rise, followed by a national headlining run and support slots for The Head and the Heart, Judah & the Lion, Wilderado, and Colony House.

We’ve followed Happy Landing since their 2024 Bonnaroo appearance, where their sincerity and high-energy folk-rock turned the Who Stage into one of the most unexpectedly joyful crowds of the day. That same emotional directness threads through “Come On South,” offering a look toward their sophomore album due in 2026 via Too Fine Records.

“Come On South” lands as another step in the band’s expanding folk-rock palette — a song that channels longing into something clear-eyed and liberating, and a fitting way to start the week.
