Girl Tones, a high-energy duo comprised of sisters Kenzie and Laila, burst into the indie rock scene in 2024 with a series of bold early singles like the hard-hitting “Fade Away,” “Again,” and “I Know You Know,” produced by Brad Shultz of Cage The Elephant. These releases combined gritty guitar work, driving rhythms, and a polished swagger one would expect from a far more seasoned band.
In a milestone move, Girl Tones recently became the first act signed to Parallel Vision, a new label founded by Brad Shultz, Daniel Oakley, and Darren Potuck under the Big Loud Rock umbrella. Shultz, celebrated for his work with Cage The Elephant, brings an artist-driven focus, while Oakley and Potuck add extensive industry experience spanning streaming, artist development, and marketing. This partnership will certainly help Girl Tones spread there indie rock vibes on a larger scale.
About Girl Tones Recent Song “Blame” + Music Video
Girl Tones’ latest single, “Blame,” showcases the band’s evolution both lyrically and sonically. In each of their releases, the sisters have explored the nuances of indie rock, and with “Blame,” they turn a more mature eye toward the complexities of conflict and accountability.
“Originally I wrote ‘Blame’ totally differently, it was out of teenage spite, the lyrics were blaming everyone but myself,” Kenzie shares. “When we brought it to the studio, being in my mid-twenties, I now have a very different outlook on life and rewrote most of it. As you get older, relationships become more complicated, truthfully who is to blame if they fail? In the song we play with that idea of right and wrong, pride and vulnerability.”

“Blame” captures the emotional weight of unresolved conflict, highlighting how the need for accountability can clash with pride and pain. The song embodies the duo’s growing musical and personal maturity, resonating with listeners navigating the complexities of relationships and self-awareness. Meanwhile the sonic influences of producer Brad Shultz make their musical mark, leaning more into indie rock rather than the fist-pumping intensity of earlier works Girl Tones works. The song will instantly connect with fans of Cage the Elephant.
The accompanying music video, filmed at Nashville’s Dive Motel, leans into the pair’s mischievous side. Directed by Casey Pierce, the video is set in a ‘70s-inspired wonderland and channels plenty of sibling rivalry.
