This Copenhagen-based dream pop duo Dreamstruck is poised to captivate listeners with their latest single, “Moon.” Hauntingly beautiful, it’s a track that delves into the vulnerability and the resilience of love in the darkest moments. The band, composed of Karen Krogshøj and Jonas Struck, blends shimmering soundscapes with raw emotional depth, creating music that connects on a deeply personal level.
“Moon” serves as a sonic beacon of hope amidst relational turbulence. The track began with the rhythmic heartbeat of a vintage drum machine, laying the foundation for a sound that is simultaneously lo-fi and grandiose. Krogshøj’s bright, crystalline voice and cool bass riffs intertwine with Struck’s shoegaze-inspired guitar work, crafting a sound that is as expansive as it is intimate.
For Krogshøj and Struck, Dreamstruck is more than just a musical endeavor – it’s a journey of understanding and expressing the complexities of their own relationship. “To write so openly about our relationship and share my innermost thoughts with Struck obviously sparked confrontations when the core of our conflicts was framed in our music,” Krogshøj reflects. “Eventually, the whole process turned out to have an almost therapeutic effect on us. Love is about communication, facing differences and difficulties, and dealing with them. I guess that’s what Dreamstruck is about: a shared declaration of love.”
Featuring Mathias Bertelsen of the noise rock trio The Entrepreneurs, the song becomes a duet filled with layered voices and emotions. Krogshøj and Bertelsen’s vocals intertwine to create a track that’s both poignant and uplifting.
Though their time performing together as Dreamstruck has been short, Krogshøj and Struck bring a wealth of experience to their project. Jonas Struck, an award-winning film score composer, first made waves as the guitarist for Swan Lee, one of Denmark’s most celebrated indie bands of the 2000s. Karen Krogshøj, a former member of Vamp Camp and the signature voice of several of Struck’s scores, including Netflix’s hit series Ragnarok, contributes her lyrical prowess and commanding vocals.
Dreamstruck’s debut, self-titled album was released on January 10th via Rough Trade records. The album, co-produced by Brian Batz of Sleep Party People is replete with bold, reflective themes and captivating soundscapes.
