It’s been one year since Civil Twilight debuted their album, Story of an Immigrant, and to celebrate, they’ve just returned with a full acoustic re-release of the already incredible record.
“It was a lot of fun breaking these songs down to their core, stripping them naked and giving them a new outfit,” says singer Steven McKellar. “To see what else we could bring out of them and what else they could say. These versions allow the listener a closer look and hopefully a more intimate experience of the original album.”
The result is an utterly dreamy, total ethereal collection of tracks, including three special bonus tunes that you’re going to dig (*ahem–a Billy Idol cover–ahem*). Not only has the collective released a re-envisioning of Story of an Immigrant, they’re going on tour again!
To get everyone excited about all the acoustic things, McKeller has created a playlist and provided commentary about their favorite acoustic-style tunes just for East of 8th!

This whole album is amazing. This is one of my favorites on the album. Simple. Pretty. Just what it needs to be. - Bob Dylan – “Simple Twist Of Fate”
This is off one of my favorite Dylan albums, but obviously he has so many good ones. The first time I heard this song I thought the lyric was so great. I love the way the story turns around a single phrase and reveals it from different angles. I like that kind of writing. And Dylan’s gift for imagery is unsurpassed. - Bon Iver – “Perth”
One of the best and most powerful artists of recent times in my opinion. You feel the weight of the emotion from the very first note. It hits you in the gut. - The Beatles – “Blackbird”
What a gorgeous song. - Carole King – “So Far Away”
Another classic album. Such great songs, singing, melodies, performances. This record plays like a greatest hits album, its so good. - Dawes – “A Little Bit Of Everything”
I love these guys. Great lyrics and songs. This is a powerful song in the style of the great folk songwriters. He perfectly captures a feeling and paints the most wonderful picture with his words, keeping you engaged the whole time. Like Dylan would do.
